Client: Charlotte County BOCC

Date: 2013

While providing dredging permitting, design and construction management services for the deepening of the Pirate Harbor channel in Charlotte County, Coastal Engineering Consultants, Inc. was tasked to conduct a series of hard-bottom monitoring surveys and produce corresponding reports to fulfill the public interest requirements of the dredging permit. The monitoring consists of surveying transects that through the areas of hardbottom both before and after dredging, and twice a year for five years following construction. Sampling is conducted along each transect at regular intervals. The size of individual patches or continuous hard-bottom is measured to determine the percent cover, and species are collected to determine the type, abundance, and diversity. A detailed technical report is submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection after each monitoring event outlining the findings of the survey and noting any observable trends.
